Kathleen “Kathie” Joan Rau

November 9, 1943 - May 5, 2025

A Good Person is a Gift to the World

Kathie, born and raised in London, Ontario, spent her retirement with family in London and her many great friends in Kettle Point. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, an amazing sister and cherished friend to everyone who knew her. Kathie’s generosity, compassion and kindness touched everyone she met. Kathie loved her career as an X-Ray Technician, helping her spread her gift of giving, a true people person. Those of us who were fortunate to know Kathie and spend time with her, know how much she loved travel, sports, music and dancing, but family was her priority and she enjoyed fun times with her grandchildren, and their activities, including cherished summers spent together at the beach. Many cold winters were enjoyed in Puerto Vallarta, Texas and Florida with family and friends.

Kathie was quick to laugh, easy to love and will never be forgotten. ❤️

She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Smith and her husband Christopher Smith; grandchildren, Bryce, Reece and Easton Smith; brother, Richard (Debbie) Donohue; sisters, Wendy (Graham) Palmer and Pamela Donohue; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son Bradley, and parents Norma and Edward Schmuck.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Widder Station, 8395 Decker Road, Thedford.

I lived around the corner from the Rau’s when they lived on Estella rd. Brad and I were close friends growing up and I spent a lot of time at the Rau's household doing what kids did back at the day. Kathie allowed me to play with brad and my recollection of our bike rides on the trails nearby, collecting fossils, the sleepovers and trading hockey cards are my most cherished childhood memories. When Brad passed, I showed up at the Rau’s front door in tears. It was Kathie who answered the door. She immediately held and consoled me. She was my rock and I could not help but feel guilty that I leaned on her for support at the time of Brads passing. Her compassion and warmth was an experience I’ll never forget. Thank you Mrs Rau.
