Lawrence Wesley Martin

November 18, 1935 - September 11, 2025

Lawrence Martin passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, at the age of 89. He was the beloved father of Kevin (Kelly) Martin and proud grandfather of Jessica (Olivia) and Darby (Lance). Lawrence was the much-loved husband of Isabel Wildfong-Martin for 35 years and a devoted step-father to Brad (Kathy) Wildfong and Lori Fox and a cherished Grandpa to Brittany (Scott), Jordan (Emily), and Taylor Fox.

Lawrence was a man who truly lived life to the fullest.

A hard-working and active soul, he spent many years in the forestry industry, as a skilled arborist and Forestry Supervisor, first in the Toronto area, then moving to the London PUC. When the City of London split up the PUC, Lawrence maintained that position at the newly formed London Hydro.  A talented and proficient arborist, he instructed and encouraged younger apprentices to pursue quality workmanship in their working life, in his role as Supervisor.  He was truly passionate about tree work and maintaining the image of the Forest City. He retired from London Hydro in 1994.

He loved his coffee from Tim Hortons, but even more than that, he loved connecting with people. His bright smile and warm presence could light up any room and make everyone around him feel welcome.

He was a dedicated Mason for many years and attained a position in Grand Lodge. Lawrence was a long-time volunteer at the Fanshawe Pioneer Village and Trinity United Church, where he offered over 20 years of his time. He also served with the LHSC Auxiliary for 10 years. Lawrence was a man of deep community spirit and generosity.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—playing cards, listening to music, dancing, and spending time with his Masonic brothers. Whether working hard or sharing a laugh, he brought heart and joy to every moment.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, ON from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service conducted on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service under the auspices of Moffat Lodge #399 A.F. & A.M. at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow.

A special thank you to St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital for the care he received.

Donations in memory of Lawrence may be made to the Fanshawe Pioneer Village.

Loved forever and missed already.

Dearest Isabel and family From the first day I met him, when he and I were volunteering, Lawrence was an inspiration to me. With Lawrence "what you saw was what you got". I loved talking with him about his life, and I deeply admired his service to others.
