Leo Michael Dertinger

January 9, 2022

Peacefully and surrounded by family at Victoria Hospital on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Loving husband to Cathy of 47 years. Beloved father to Melissa (Eric) Oliver and Michael (Kelly) Dertinger. Adored grandfather to Lilly, Lincoln and Claire. Leo will be deeply missed by his siblings: George (2016) Dertinger, Theresa (Walt) Spence, Rita (Alan) Collver, Earl (Sue) Dertinger, Carl (Sue) Dertinger, Eva (Gerry) Quaegebeur, Nora (Jerry) Hentz, Jim (Kelly) Dertinger, and Joan (Gary) Lang. Predeceased by his parents Audrey and Charles Dertinger.

After leaving the family farm, Leo started his career at Livingston Industries in Tillsonburg. Once he established himself, the position at Livingston took him to Florida, Texas and Montreal. Upon returning to Ontario, he took on a position at Customized Transportation Inc., where he worked for a number of years. Later on, he decided on a career change to real estate as a new challenge for the next 10 years. His work ethic taught his family about the importance of hard work, dedication and integrity.

Leo loved travelling with his wife and a small group of friends mostly to warmer destinations. He enjoyed participating in sports such as golf, skiing and biking. He especially enjoyed playing golf in the Masters League at Hickory Ridge Golf Club and valued the friendships he made there.

He loved playing and spending time with his three grandchildren any chance he could. Leo’s life was fully lived and enjoyed. His memory and values will live on in those who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

Many thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital for their kindness and compassion in caring for Leo over the past month.

A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. Registration will be required to attend as attendance numbers will be restricted.

It is with sadness that I read about Leo's passing. I worked with Leo during his real estate career. Leo always set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, customer service and team work. Leo was supportive of all company initiatives, especially during our annual 'Shelter Fund' which raised money in support of women's shelters and violence prevention. Leo will be missed by all of his co-workers and past clients. My condolences to Leo's family. The picture attached is a 2008 staff Christmas party where Leo presented our annual fundraising cheque to the London Women's Shelter manager.
