Leon Broniewicz

August 16, 1952 - August 17, 2023

In Loving Memory of Leon: A Devoted Catholic, Cherished Family Man, and Curious Soul.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, in his 71st year. Leon’s life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and curiosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He departed this world on Thursday, August 17, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.

Leon will be missed tremendously by his wife of 46 years, Bogumila. They were inseparable. He was the loving father of Tomek, Agnieszka (Matt), and Kasia (Lukasz). He was a master storyteller to his grandchildren: Ella, Olivia, Emily, Mia, and Niko, whom he loved very much.

Leon was born in Bialystok, Poland. There he leaves behind his brother Irek (Nadzieja) and his sister Walentyna, as well as countless other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Malgorzata and his parents Wlodzimierz and Konstancja. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law Zdzislawa. In this time of grief, let us find solace in the cherished memories we hold dear and the love that will forever connect us to his spirit.

Leon’s journey was one characterized by unwavering devotion and boundless love. He received a degree in Physics at the University of Wroclaw, and together with his wife orchestrated a plan to bring their family to Canada by fleeing through the Iron Curtain. Leon was dedicated to giving his wife and children the best life possible; he was a teacher in Poland and took on multiple jobs in Canada, prior to spending the rest of his career working in the facilities management department at the University of Western Ontario until his retirement.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both joyous moments and challenging times. A devout Roman Catholic, Leon’s spirituality was not just a personal belief but a source of strength that he shared with his loved ones.

Leon’s passions and interests were a window into his vibrant soul. At various points in his life he became fluent in German, Russian, English, and Polish, and conversant in Spanish. He found immense joy in the thrill of soccer games, the elegance of tennis matches, solving complicated crossword puzzles, playing the guitar, and mastering the art of photography. His enthusiasm for sports was infectious, uniting family and friends. His love of the great outdoors led to many memorable family camping trips. Leon’s inquisitive mind also led him to explore the meanings behind certain numbers, a pursuit that mirrored his thirst for knowledge and his desire to uncover the mysteries of the universe.

Central to Leon’s identity was his profound love for his family. He was a father beyond compare, dedicating himself to his children’s happiness and success. As a grandfather, Leon’s heart knew no bounds. His bond with his grandchildren was a pure and profound expression of love. Their laughter and joy brought a twinkle to his eyes, and the warmth of his embrace was a sanctuary of love and comfort.

Though Leon’s physical presence is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the memories he created, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared. His life was a testament to the beauty of faith, the power of love, and the importance of pursuing one’s passions. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the richness of the life he lived and the love he bestowed upon us all.

Rest in peace, dear Leon. Your memory will live on in our hearts, and the love you shared will continue to inspire and guide us. Until we meet again.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yazdan-Ashoori and the staff at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre – Cardiac Care Unit in Barrie, for going above and beyond for Leon and his family during a very difficult time.

A heartfelt thank you to Rev. Savio Bruto da Costa, Associate Pastor at St. Mary’s Parish in Barrie, for helping to bring support and guidance to Bogumila and the rest of the family during these challenging moments.

Pamiętam Pana Leona z mojego dzieciństwa. Miał zawsze miły uśmiech, i jakiś żart żeby powiedzieć. Za wcześniej odszedł ale wierzę że jego dusza zawsze będzie przy tych co go pamiętają i tym bardziej przy rodzinie. On dalej żyję w waszych sercach. Deepest condolences from our family to yours. Zostawiłeś nas tak niepodziewanie, beznadziejnych w rozpaczy, a przecież mieliśmy jeszcze tyle sobie do powiedzenia… Łączyło nas wiele, ojczyzna, praca, marzenia i tysiące wspomnień. Twoja koleżeńskość, uczynność, poczucie humoru czyniło nam życie lżejsze, a wiara jaką posiadałeś stała się inspiracją dla wielu. Dla Ciebie rozpoczęło się nowe życie, dla nas żałoba. P.S. Żegnaj na jakiś czas Przyjacielu, byliśmy szczęśliwi znając Ciebie.
