Lois Anne Potts (née Jelly)

February 8, 1941 - November 8, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lois at University Hospital, London.  Lois was predeceased by her husband, James Potts, and subsequently by her partner and soulmate during the past decade, Lawrence Hurst.  She was also predeceased by her brother, Lindsey and her sister, Mary Dods (late John).

Lois will be dearly missed by her sister, Catherine Kelly (John), her sister-in-law, Mary Jelly, and her nieces and nephews.  She will also be missed by many friends made during her 60 years living in London, especially by her friend and caring companion of the past 14 years, Elma Malasig.

Lois’s early years were spent on a farm near Shelburne, Ontario prior to the family moving to Orangeville and then to Peterborough, where she attended teacher’s college.  From the mid-1960s, she flourished as an educator in the London elementary school system.  She progressed from classroom teacher to library resource person to Vice-Principal, and ultimately, to Principal.  For Lois, this was both a profession and a calling.  During these years she further honed her skills by completing both Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at Western University.

Lois and Jim spent many happy years in retirement, dividing their time between their home in London and spending winter months in Florida.  Playing bridge with friends and entertaining in their home were front and centre social activities.  During quiet times at home, she was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast.  Her life-long love for her chihuahuas gave her immense pleasure that continued to her last days.

We thank the entire medical team at University Hospital dedicated to her care for their skill, kindness and empathy.

As per Lois’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lois’s memory to the Children’s Health Foundation, the Humane Society London and Middlesex, or a charity of your choice.

We were so fortunate to call Lois a friend. She was one classy lady. Our warm thoughts go out to her sister Cathy and her husband John.
