NIKAS, Maria Anna – Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, on Family Day, Monday, February 21, 2011. Maria Anna Nikas, 51 years, of London. Beloved wife of Leonidas Nikas. Devoted mother of Nikki, Kostas, George, Toula and Katerina (Bunny) Nikas, all of London. Cherished grandmother of Adriel Constantine Luciano. Beloved daughter of George and the late Toula Nikolakakos, and beloved sister of Stella Nikolakakos Kambas and husband Dionysios Kambas, Dimitri Lascaris and wife Farida Fareh Lascaris, and Tasia Sozou and husband Nikos Sozos. She will be missed by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Maria’s family was the center of her life, and Maria was the heart of her family. Maria’s beauty, class, and elegance brightened the lives of those who knew her, and her graceful presence simply lit up a room. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors who provided Maria with their devoted care. Visitors will be received on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. with prayers at 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 131 Southdale Road West, London at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011. Maria will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, London following the funeral. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Maria was the heart of everyones lives that she touched. We met at school when our children first met in kindergarden. They were are friends and neighbours for several years until they moved. We will always hold a special place in our hearts for Maria. I know here legacey will live on in the lives of her 5 children. Her spirit up there will put the sun to bed, wake up the grass, and spin the earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you can see her dancing in a cloud during the day-time, when she is suppose to be sleeping. She will always paint rainbows and provide the best sunsets for all of us. So having said that we will look for Maria in our rainbows and all our sunny days here on earth and remember how wonderful she was. We are so sorry for the loss of Maria. She had a quiet, gentle way about her that made the simplest act seem full of grace. I only knew her as she helped her husband with the restaurant but even that she did without complaint. Dear Leo and family, Oh my! I just can't believe it! I just heard( It is now October) the sad news about Maria! I am so shocked! I am so sad for all of you! and your children must be so lost with out their Mom! I am sorry I was not at her funeral, but I had no idea she was even sick. After buying your house I only saw Marie once since then at the grocery store, we chatted a few minutes, gave each other a big hug and she said how happy she was in her new home. Living in Toronto, we hadn't seen Maria recently but do have many fond memories of our families spending time in London and my fondness memories are the times we spent together in Greece.
