Marilyn June Mahood
April 23, 2021
The family of Marilyn June Mahood is sad to announce her sudden and unexpected passing on Friday, April 23, 2021. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, June was a force to be reckoned with. A woman of high principles and great faith, June had an unwavering sense of right and wrong, which she channeled into a lifelong commitment to community service. June graduated from Hamilton General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1955 and worked as a private nurse, floor intensive care nurse and as an office nurse throughout her long career. She ran the Neurological Sciences Library at University Hospital for 35 years as a volunteer. June was a member of the London Psychiatric Advisory Board and the University Hospital Board. She set up a volunteer program in Palliative Care at Parkwood Institute and volunteered at the Ark Aid Mission, the Breakfast Program at Woodlynn School and as gift coordinator for the Christmas Sharing Program. June was also Executive Director of the Canadian Recreational Canoeing, where her organizational skills over shone the fact she had never been in a canoe. In her “spare time”, she loved to golf and was a founding member of the Hickory Chicks at Hickory Ridge Golf and Country Club, after a lengthy membership at Sunningdale Golf Club. As proud as she was of these accomplishments, her greatest joy was her family. June is survived by her loving husband Ken, of 65 years; her four children: Sherree (Lynn), Brad (Lucy), Jim (Elizabeth) and Ted (Leslie); ten grandchildren: Sean (Christine), Kyle (Alyssa), Jeremy (Brittany), Mathew (Jessica), Cody (Alex), Mitchell, Liam, Katie, Nick (Megan), Jonathan, and four great-grandchildren, with another one on the way. Due to COVID-19 protocols, a memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be a private family visitation, with prayers, at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, which the family welcomes friends to view via livestream.

John Eberhard We are saddened and shocked by the news of the passing of June. Paddle Canada has lost one its best E.D.'s. Indeed, June was an exceptional and detail-driven leader of people. She had the ability to see what needed to be done, and do something about it! A great organizer, a friendly smile and a hands-on leader, June will be missed by so many! Our hearts go out to Ken and the family during this difficult time.

Dear Ken and family: Cliff and I were shocked to learn of June's passing. She was someone we admired for all of her selfless acts in the community over all these past years. And felt lucky to have been part of those she sent cards to every occasion in our lives, plus those delicious buns she would make and deliver to our house, always with a big smile. We last saw her just before Easter and were surprised as usual for her kindness. Always a good support , even when things in her own life were a challenge. She will be missed, and has earned a special place in heaven for the person she was. Rest In Peace June...... Love-Mary and Cliff Swindell

It was such fun chatting with June and sharing jokes and stories. Her cheery outlook on life was very infectious. She was one of those people who made us all feel better and helped to make it fun to go to work every day. I won't forget her.

Ken: We were shocked to read of June's passing. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.
Dear Family of June: I was completely shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death of dear June. I had spoken with her on April 15th to thank her for the birthday card she so kindly and thoughtfully sent each year. We had a good chat and she sounded just as strong and normal as ever. She was in the process of "making an early supper for Ken". June was a pillar of strength to the Committee that was struck at University Hospital to organize Volunteer Services. I was fortunate enough to get the job of Director that department and June was a strong support to me as we built the department and for 30 years thereafter. June was an integral part of Neurological Sciences because she ran their excellent Library and was a favourite of all the staff on the 7th floor of U.H. June's presence will be sorely missed by you, her precious family and the rest of the community in which she was so involved. With my deep sympathy. Jackie Farquhar.

Sorry for your loss Brad and Lucy. My deepest sympathies
My sincerest and deepest condolences to the Mahood family on June's death. My association with June started as a medical student accessing the Clinical Neurological Sciences library at University Hospital, continued as a Neurology resident and then as a member of the Department. I mentioned here death at our Departmental Grand Rounds this morning and there were several anecdotes shared regarding her tenacious tracking down of individuals who had checked books out of the library and then failed to return them. June's cheerfulness, her ever willingness to be of help, and her knowledge made the CNS library a welcome refuge from our busy clinical responsibilities. Her contributions to our department and its academic mission over the years cannot be over-estimated. May you all be comforted by the memories and traces of love that June leaves behind her.
We are so sad to hear of June's passing. She was an inspiration to us at St. Michaels and all Angels Church. Ken. Please accept our deepest condolences.
