Marius Lambertus Martens

February 16, 1932 - February 1, 2024

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at McCormick Home, London, On Thursday, Feb 1, 2024, just before his 92nd birthday. Marius joined his beloved wife and partner, Rea, on what would have been their 68th wedding anniversary. Marius resided in London and formally lived in Grand Bend for 64 years.

Loving father and father-in-law of Steven and Valerie Martens, Rick and Sharon Martens, and Marlin Martens; Cherished Grandpa of Ryan and Lisa Martens, Natasha and Andrew Sembay, James and Danielle Martens, Andrea Martens, Dayna Martens, and Eric Beauparlant; Great Grandpa of Hailey, Isabella, Robyn Jordyn, Ethan, Matilda, Jack and Cole.

Predeceased by parents and all siblings – Henricus and Martina (Raaijmakers) Martens, Johan and Miet Martens, Marinus and Truus Martens, R.C. Sister Evarista Martens “Johanna”, Wim Martens, Jan Martens, Martin and Magdalena and Anastasia Martens, Sien and Tom Smits, Tony and Martha Martens, Marietje and Jan Guns, Arnold and Anne Martens.  Marius will be remembered by the Hurkmans family in Canada and Holland and his many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Marius was a true family man and loved spending time with not only his own family but also his extended family and friends.  Everyone was always welcome.  He loved horses, fishing, watching many minor sports hockey, baseball, and soccer games, and don’t forget The Toronto Maple Leafs. He was an entrepreneur for over 35 years with Martens Brick and Stone Masonry in Grand Bend and the area.   He loved surprising our mother with last-minute road trips, homemade wine, maple syrup, and playing cards.  At the end of the day, he was often seen enjoying a fine cigar.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.  The service will be live-streamed. Please click here

We were so sorry to hear of Uncle Marius' death especially so soon after Tante Rea's. Their's was a great love. We're also sorry that we couldn't attend the funeral and give our condolences in person. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
