Mark Patrick Macera

August 19, 2019

Surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, August 19, 2019, Mark Patrick Macera, of London, Ontario, succumbed to cancer at the age of 71. Mark is survived by his wife Kathy of 50 years. Theirs was a love at first sight! Mark is also survived by his daughter Mary Jane, of London; his son Mark (Andrea), of New Market, Maryland; his daughter Ann Marie (Steve), of Fairfield, Connecticut; his brother John (Nancy), of Ottawa; and his grandchildren: Alexii, Christian, Addison, Mason, Zachary, Max, Ava, Sebastian and Izzy. Mark was a true family man. His favourite times were with his family playing cards, cooking, swimming by the pool and having a beer. He was a truly selfless person, always volunteering to help his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing and playing poker with his buddies and could always be counted on for a good laugh. In his early years, Mark was a competitive hockey player, known for his killer slap shot, record penalty minutes and beer drinking! He was an avid golfer, still in search of the correct putter. Mark loved to watch hockey and golf, and would never miss a Toronto Blue Jays game. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Mark’s life will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mark and Kathy’s home on Sunday, August 25, 2019. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mark are asked to consider the London Health Sciences Centre – Baker Centre for Pancreatic Cancer.

My sincerest condolences to Kathy and the Macera family in this time of grief and sorrow. I first met Mark when I joined the Holy Rosary Bowling league many years ago and remember how he and Kathy were both avid bowlers and supporters of our little league. I recall meeting Mark in the parking lot of the local grocery store in June of this year. We spent a several minutes 'catching up' so his passing came as great shock. I know Kathy and the family will have many good memories of Mark's life and I am certain those wonderful times will be the source of your consolation in this difficult time. I also know he will be watching over all of you--just from a different place. Knowing Mark, he probably won't want you to grieve too long, but rather to move forward in the love, laughter and joy he cherished.

It was with great surprise and sadness to read about Mark's death. Our sincere condolences to your family. Mary met Mark, Katy and Ann Marie when they joined the Holy Rosary bowling league and Mary Jane, when she spared. . Mark continued to bowl with the group until the bowling alley closed down. He was a friendly guy, always ready to chat and share his many jokes. We are very sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
