Matthew ‘Matt’ Dale Creighton

April 19, 2024

Matthew Dale Creighton was taken from us much too soon, on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 62.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his daughter, Katharine Elizabeth Creighton (Ray Kanani) and his partner of 19 years, Meaghan Innes. Son of Dale Creighton (2017) and Marion Creighton; brother to Paul Creighton (Kelly Taylor) and Lyndsey Mitchinson; crazy uncle Matt to Sarah (Jay Wyman) and Rachel Creighton, Arielle (Brock Rigby) and Madison Mitchinson (Joel Mazzilli).

Matt was raised in London, Ontario, where he attended Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School prior to attending Western University, where he studied business and economics. At Western, Matt met many of his lifelong friends through the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

After graduating from Western, Matt followed the footsteps of his father and joined the insurance industry at London Life, where he had a successful tenure as evidenced by numerous elements of formal recognition. Following Matt’s time at London Life, he took on a new challenge and joined the medical device industry, which led to working with Zimmer Biomet for over 20 years, in a sales and marketing capacity, and as the Corporate Contract and Business Manager. Matt loved the medical device industry and remained in it until his retirement in 2022. He would often speak about how fortunate he was to have worked with such great minds and to have been able to witness such innovative technology and research. His time with Zimmer Biomet also introduced him to his love of travel and seeing other parts of the world. He made lasting friendships and left his signature along the way.

A third-generation Londoner, Matthew was raised believing in the importance of giving back to the community, and has been involved in charitable service since his days at Western University. He died during National Volunteer week, a week that celebrates the amazing contributions of community members. Matt not only contributed his time and passion to many organizations and events, but was first to thank others for doing the same. Matt wanted to leave the world knowing he’d somehow made it better and his proclivity to give back was a philosophy he lived by each and every day.

Merging his work and personal experiences, Matthew contributed as a Board Member to various London Foundations. He served on the London Health Sciences Foundation Executive Committee as Vice Chair, as Chair of the London Health Sciences Foundation Governance and Nomination Committee and as an active member of the London Health Sciences Foundation Board of Directors.

Driven by the compassionate devotion to the memory of his father, Matt worked tirelessly in his pursuit to move the needle forward in our understanding of neuroscience and neurodegenerative disorders, including dementias and concussions. His passion for advancing this endeavour resulted in his enthusiastic support and development of the Dale E. Creighton Brain and BioBank. Matt’s passion to help those families impacted by dementia also fueled his involvement as a member of the McCormick Care Foundation Board of Directors.

Matt also loved McHappy Day. Each year he could be found supporting his friends at Finlayson Hospitality by enthusiastically volunteering to flip burgers to support this cause in any way he could.

Matt’s strong exterior, while being warm and thoughtful to those he met, inspired everyone around him to live life to the fullest. His mantra was, “I’d rather burn out than rust out” and he never took for granted a day in his life. He would often say, “tomorrow is promised to no one” and he would want everyone to think of this when with family and friends and to pass it on as often as possible. Matt would regularly sign off a call with, “love ya, see ya, bye”.

Matt, we love you, we will see you again and bye for now our love.

A private funeral service has taken place. We welcome you to come celebrate Matt’s life at the London Hunt and Country Club, 1431 Oxford Street West, London on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
