I'm heartbroken to hear of Matt's passing. I was his Gr. 6 teacher at Wortley. He had a wicked sense of humour, worked hard, enjoyed life. He always seemed to be in the middle of things—in a good way! My condolences to Joe, Joe and families.

Matt showed me and many others that being different and being cool were not things that were mutually exclusive. He had a unique skill of being the friend of the people. No judgment cast on or by him. We spent time with each other in high school and some time after that where eventually we sought our own dreams in other places. I never forgot our friendship and what he taught me. I hope that I taught him something as well. He was the brother in my home that I never wanted and the friend that I always did. I don’t know where we go after this long ride of life but if it is somewhere I’m sure that we will meet up again. Boy was he different, but man was he cool.
