Peacefully, on Monday, February 25, 2019, Maxine Jean Baldwin of Markham, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husbands Keith Leroy Stirling (1973) and Clayton James Baldwin (2014). Beloved mother of Janna Stirling (Glenn Gordulic), Douglas (Martha) Stirling and Robert Stirling. Cherished grandmother of 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the Stirling and Baldwin families. Dearly loved by Ruby (Cliff) Connell, Linda Buchanan, Harry (Maggie) Baldwin and Brenda Stevens. Missed by sister-in-law Beverly Small, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Malcolm and Jean (Campbell) Small, and brothers: Donald (Helen), Melvin and Douglas Small. Maxine was born on a farm near Iona, Ontario. She attended the Normal School (Teachers’ College) in London, where she met Keith. Her career began in a one room school house in Southwold, Elgin County; teaching eventually led her to a long career within the London School Board. She travelled the world on planes, trains, ships and in a motorhome. Maxine was an active member of several communities, including the Metropolitan United Church, London and Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Key Women Educators. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Maxine are asked to consider the Bethany Lodge Foundation or the Metropolitan United Church, London.

I missed Maxine when she moved to Toronto. If I was on the front step she always came up the drive to say hello when she was on her daily walk.
Hi Doug, So sorry to hear about your Mom's death. Her teaching in a one room school reminded me that Marj attended a one room school and began her teaching career in a one room school in Saskatchewan. Teachers are very special and much more so are mothers. She must have been a great example and inspiration to you and your family. It was always nice to chat with your Mom.As a long time resident ,she knew so much about the neighbourhood. Rod & I held a neighbourhood party a few years ago. Your Mom attended and between Rod, Janet Ellis and your Mom, no stone was left unturned on the history of the Bloomfield homes and owners. The evening ended with street fireworks and your Mom happily enjoyed them from her lawn chair! Pleasant memories.
