Michael David Bowers

February 2, 2016

Passed away peacefully at University Hospital on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at age 85, with his loving wife Janie Martini-Bowers, his daughter Tara Bowers Vanheule (Rene), and son Jaye Michael Bowers, all by his side. He will also be deeply missed by his daughters Tracy and Michele Bowers. Michael was born at an early age (a testament to his subtle humour here) in Kensington, London, England, in 1930. He began his career with the Ford Company of England, working as a toolmaker’s apprentice. Michael immigrated to Canada in 1954, his land of opportunity, after serving with the British Royal Air Force. He joined Salada Foods, later known as the Kellogg Company of Canada, in Toronto, and retired from Kellogg’s in London, in 1990, after serving 30 years in various management positions. Michael was active in the Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Parish for over 15 years, and served as Grand Knight, as well as a 3rd and 4th degree member during those years. In retirement, he continued his own business, Senior for Seniors, for 15 years, as a handyman, helping seniors with their various needs. Michael enjoyed woodworking, and was very creative. Some of his other passions were: travel, cottaging, the family dogs, wining and dining, and dancing with his loving wife of 38 years. Michael also enjoyed theatre, and was involved with amateur drama, including once playing in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream at Casa Loma in Toronto. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m., with prayers at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 777 Valetta Street, London, on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow the service. Cremation to take place, with a private family interment held at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Michael are asked to consider the Boys & Girls Club of London, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Holy Family Parish Building Fund or a children’s charity of their choice.
