Nadia Amadio

August 23, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nadia Amadio. Surrounded by her loving family, Nadia passed away on the 23rd of August, 2023 at the age of 65 after a sudden intense, courageous battle with brain cancer.

Nadia was born on the 16th of November, 1957 in Sudbury, ON. She is the youngest daughter of the late Sergio Amadio and Norina Bettiol. Survived by her husband JB Orange of over 39 years of marriage, friendship, and love; children Evan (Jessica), and Hannah (Devon), and grandson Riley. Nadia is the beloved little sister of Grace Navarro and her husband Julio Navarro. Zia to Eric (Marquise) and Chris Navarro, and to numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins from the Amadio, Bettiol, Orange, and Fyfe families spread throughout Ontario, British Columbia, the USA, and Italy.

Nadia was a 1976 graduate of Marymount College in Sudbury. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Nadia engaged in over forty years of exemplary clinical pharmacy practice, beginning with Boots drug stores in the Ottawa region, then working with Big V Drug Stores and Shoppers Drug Mart in St. Catharines and London for most of her career. Her retirement in October 2020 was marked by an impressive collection of written and verbal accolades from colleagues, technicians, customers, and their family members who made special mention of her compassion, professionalism, joy, humour, trustworthiness, modesty, and mentorship. Many fondly mentioned her being a beam of bright sunshine with a radiant smile, reaching out to support them and their ill family members, connecting, consoling, guiding, and reassuring at personal, emotional levels. She was the consummate pharmacist considered and revered as the standard of care many in her profession aspire to achieve.

Nadia possessed a deep love for her children and new grandson. She held passions for animals, particularly cats, gardening, figure skating, tennis, travelling with family and close friends, and board games including her daily Sudoku, Wordle, Waffle, and Heardle. Her gardens were admired and envied, with cuttings, seeds, and transplants being sought after and shared widely throughout the city and province. Nadia’s warm, joyful presence will live on in and brighten the hearts and gardens of thousands for decades to come.

Nadia’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the expert neurosurgical, neurology, and palliative doctors, and to the kind and considerate nursing, support, and spiritual care staff at London Health Sciences Centre – University Hospital, especially those on the Neuro Observation Unit.

Nadia is resting at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where friends may gather for visitation on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Divine Parish Springbank Catholic Family of Churches, 390 Base Line Road West, London, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. She wished that all who attend her visitation and funeral will consider wearing brightly coloured attire versus sombre, black-coloured clothing to help celebrate her joy, peace, and life. Entombment will be in the Civic Memorial Mausoleum in Sudbury, ON. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Nadia’s memory to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Migraine Canada, London Health Sciences Foundation, or any other disease-based philanthropic organizations.

I am so sorry to learn about the passing of Nadia. I did not know her well despite having been in her 8T0 pharmacy class as I was in the 'second' half of the alphabet. (The segregated us by last name.) That of course is my loss. I remember her as bright and cheery with that long beautiful hair. My heartfelt condolences to her family.

~ Joan (Rellinger) Slover

My deep sympathy for you JB and to your family at this sad loss.

~ William Krock

When I referred to Nadia, I called her "my" pharmacist at Shopper's Drug Mart on Southdale and Jalna. And that was because when she counseled me or my husband about my meds, I felt that I was treated so personally and with such care that she belonged to me. Of course, all the customers, clients, patients who came in contact with her felt that same personal and caring treatment. I missed Nadia when she retired, but I liked thinking that she was here in the city ... enjoying her retirement with her husband and family ... making her garden grow lovelier with her special touch, and enjoying her travels. Our deepest sympathy to all of you, her dear family. Antonios and Ellen Mamandras

The passing of Nadia makes me sad not only for the wonderful husband and children she left behind but also (and I think mostly) for little Riley who will never get to know his amazing nonna. I suppose however, that consolation can be found in knowing that she was there for the miracle of his birth.

~ Dan Hogan

On behalf of the Friends of the London Civic Garden complex I would like to express how sad we are to have lost such a very special volunteer. Nadia was a new volunteer with our group in 2022. Although she was limited in her ability to volunteer while she was frequently traveling to visit her ailing mother in Sudbury, we will always cherish the time that we volunteered with her, watering and tending the plants in the greenhouse. We will always remember her beautiful smile and her love for gardening. Sending our heart felt condolences to Nadia's family and friends.

Nadia and JB welcomed me into their home as a graduate student in CSD at Western U. In the 20 years since we’ve stayed connected. Recently, Nadia was so kind in sharing her knowledge as my husband and I were working to optimize our sons health. There are no words to thank them both for the friendship and support and equally no words as I think about JB, Hannah, Evan and the entire family with her passing. Hugs, thoughts and prayers are with you.

~ Christine Brown

I am saddened and heartbroken to learn of Nadia’s passing . …so fast , too young. I reconnected with Nadia at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury because both our Mothers were there. Evan, and Hannah and their spouses and her sister Grace and her family. May she rest in eternal peace. Will stop by her enterred remains at the Mausoleum and say a prayer. Mel

Nadia was (and will always remain) a truly loved friend and neighbour. We have had the pleasure of her friendship through the community of St John the Divine since our children were little and were filled with joy when you guys moved just down the street so many years ago. We will miss Nad's kindness, wisdom and strength and especially our sidewalk chats. I will always keep our shared love of gardening in my heart and I will treasure the many flowers in my garden that came from Nad's loving hands. There are no words to express our sympathy to you, JB, Hannah, Evan and family. Our hearts are broken. Sending you strength and courage. Hold fast to your memories and know that you have been blessed to be so loved by the very best. Hugs Cindy and Steve
