Norman ‘Norm’ Besterd

October 2, 2021

Suddenly passed away, at Victoria Hospital on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, in his 83rd year. Loving and devoted husband of the late Ruth Besterd (2021) of 62 years. Beloved and compassionate father of Allyson Stevens, the late Timothy Besterd (Tracy), and the late Paul Besterd (Connie Hester). Proud grandfather of Alexandra Price (Matthew Daniel), Stephanie Price, Braeden Price, Cody Besterd, and Kyle Besterd; great-grandfather of Tatum Daniel, Samuel Daniel, Adeline Daniel and Rylee Price.

Norm was a man of many hobbies and passions. Norm loved his farm, horses, his shepherd – mix’s (particularly the late Toby), his stray farm cats, trucks, his “John Deer” tractor, sports, and country music (Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson serenaded the interior of his trucks often). Norman was a collector of many things, sports cards and coins being two of his favorites. Norman believed in the power of tough lessons, hard work and a good deal! One of his infamous Quotes that lingers in our minds often “Is that a Need, or a Want?”

Norm enjoyed playing many games with his grandchildren. Such as, chasing his grandchildren around riding a broomstick, “Wet Wilies”, smacking unbeknownst legs or bottoms with a fly swatter, “taking off their noses” and pocketing them for “later” and toting the grandchildren and great-grandchildren along in the tailgate of his truck.

Norm’s heart belonged to his wife, Ruth Besterd. The importance of family and relationships was such a high value and priority of Norman. Norm’s devotion to his family, his giant heart and acts of kindness will forever be remembered and greatly missed. May our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, rest in peace with his wife and two sons. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Dost and his team on the 7th floor of Victoria Hospital. Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, October 8th, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Registration is required to attend the visitation.

Allison, I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Norm. My health is not well enough to visit tomorrow, but you and the family have been on my heart all week. I wish I could help shoulder the load you have carried this year. Much love, Anna

~ Anna Wozniak

Our sympathies to the Besterd family. Norm will forever be remembered for his warm and welcoming personality and his ability to enjoy life to its fullest. I was fortunate to have worked with Norm during his many years at Diesel Division General Motors in London.

~ Roy and Nancy Gardner

Dear Allyson, You have my sincere condolences with your many losses. You hold all the memories and the stories now. It was over 24 years ago that I last spoke with your Dad. I think he tried to play a joke on me:) I had to laugh afterwards. I remember he got the most miles out of his brakes, that he often got your Mom flowers and had a keen interest in hockey and of course the tracks. Family is all important. I wish you peace and comfort. With love, Bill
