Patricia ‘Pat’ Helen Gloin (née Hay)
March 2, 2022
In her home she has known and shared for 70 years, Patricia Helen Gloin (neé Hay) passed peaceably away in her 99th year on the 2nd of March 2022. She leaves as her legacy her 3 surviving children: Bradley, Christopher and Julie; predeceased by her youngest son Kirby and husband Gilbert. Her grandchildren Charlotte, Ashley, Alex, Dylan, Dane and her great-grandchildren Lincoln, Maximus, Anders and Jaxon, are blessed to have had Nana in their lives for so long.
Pat was born in Regina and grew up in the foothills of Alberta. The family moved East, settling in London in her late teens. Fond of dancing at Port Stanley on a Saturday night, she loved the big band jazz era and having a ball. She worked at London Life for many years, retiring once married to start her own family. Pat’s textile work was much admired and her beautifully knitted sweaters and hats kept three generations warm and stylish. She was an ace bridge player, active at the Hunt Club as well as winning many tournaments. On Gilbert’s retirement, the pair traveled to many historical and cultural locales in Europe and Africa with friends, bringing home cartouches from Egypt and glass from Venice. Delighted in welcoming and encouraging her grandchildren near and far, spending summers with her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Joan on the Bruce peninsula, holidays and Sunday dinners, perennial back to school shopping, winter sojourns with her Florida family and road trips; were a few of the ways she shared the riches of life with us. Pat made the sweetest strawberry jam every summer, loved talking to her cousin Joanna in Calgary and savouring a hot cup of tea each night.
Never one for long goodbyes; your love for us all and the memories we’ve shared will never leave us – truly her greatest gift. Cremation has taken place with a private family celebration planned for summer.

I first met Pat maybe 30 years ago at Wildwood which we called “Bridge Camp” and again many times at bridge tournaments ( Ottawa ) and the London bridge clubs. She was so warm and welcoming and fun to be around - she made it less scary for me, a novice player. Thanks Pat, for your friendship, Ed and I will miss you. Surely they will need you as a fourth in Heaven! Our sincere condolences to her family.
Condolence from the Singh family ( esp. Tara and Eryn ) . We are sorry to hear of your loss.
