Paul Greenhow MD, FRCP(c)

December 27, 2022

After being surrounded by family at Christmas, Paul suddenly, but peacefully, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the age of 89, with his beloved wife Patricia “Trish” of 63 years at his side.  Loving father of Doug (Linda), late Bill (Nikki), Rob (Angela), and Paul (Shannon); grandfather of Sarah (Eric), Ali (Mike), Eric, Jake (Marnie), Luke, Joel, Caleb, Aaron, Ella, Adam, Kate, and James; and great-grandfather of Tommy. Brother of Dorothy Watts (Ruben).  Brother-in-law of Marilyn Greenhow, Marilyn Greenhow and Sharon (Greenhow) Martin. Predeceased by siblings MaryAnne Byrne (Roy), John (Gerry), David, Geoffrey and Peter.

Paul was the 5th of seven children born to Geoffrey and Reta (Carey) Greenhow.  Raised in Hamilton, Paul attended Westdale Collegiate where he was very active and proficient in many athletic pursuits.  He was also an ace in the sport of riflery.  He attended the University of Toronto Medical School and during those years he met the love of his life, Trish, during the intermission to a basketball game. Trish was in nursing school, and they married in 1959 shortly after they both graduated. Paul then interned in Toledo, Ohio which was followed by a short time in family practice.  He then trained in Diagnostic Radiology and had a long and successful career at St. Joseph’s Hospital and London X-Ray Associates (LXA). For many years, he managed the LXA office practice. He was always known for arriving at work early and leaving late.

Paul was passionate about radiology.  Following his retirement from full-time practice, he continued doing locums at various hospitals in Southwestern Ontario, including Four Counties Hospital in Newbury where he served as chief of Diagnostic Imaging. At age 75, he suffered a stroke which forced him to stop working.  With the assistance of the stroke rehabilitation program at Parkwood Hospital, and much determination, he was thankfully able to enjoy another 14 wonderful years of life.

Paul had many happy memories with family and friends.  He spent treasured time every summer of his life at Hall’s Lake in Haliburton where his family and relatives have been continually cottaging for over 100 years.  Paul and Trish spent many winters vacationing in Sarasota, Florida and were long-standing members of The London Hunt Club where they enjoyed golf and other activities. They were also avid travelers.

Paul’s Christian faith was an important part of what guided his life and character.   He will be remembered for his integrity, hard work, and quiet, humble demeanor.

We will also miss his wry sense of humour, his warm smile, and generous spirit.  Paul will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  A private family funeral will be held with interment at St. John’s cemetery in Arva, Ontario.

Those wishing to donate in memory of Paul are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation (Parkwood Stroke Rehabilitation) or a charity of your choice.
