PETER D. CHIMBOS

1932-2024

On April 4, 2024, Peter D. Chimbos passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband to Eugenia, a loving father to Tina and Demetri (Suzanne), and a proud grandfather to Calista, Eva, and Jude.

He immigrated to the U.S. from Skoura, Lakonia, Greece, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and graduated from the University of Montana. He was accepted to the CIA but declined the offer and moved to Canada, to teach and start a family. He taught at Mount Royal (Calgary) Lakehead (Thunder Bay), Laurentian (Sudbury) La Verne (Athens), and after completing his Ph.D. at York (Toronto) moved to London, Ontario where he taught Sociology at the University of Western Ontario, and Brescia College up until March 2020. Due to his distinguished contributions to academia, he was granted Professor Emeritus status. In addition to various publications, he was commissioned to write The Canadian Odyssey: The Greek Experience in Canada, published in association with the Department of the Secretary of State of Canada. Peter was well known for his enthusiastic involvement in the Greek community, donating his time and resources to support educational and cultural activities.

Family was everything to him. He was an affectionate, compassionate, gentle soul that will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students.

We take comfort in the belief that he has reunited with his departed mother (Panagiota), father (Demetrios), brother (Dinos), and sister (Voula).

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Jenny Ho LRCP and Katlynn Schellenberger NP, Victoria Hospital.

Our deepest condolences for your loss. May his memory give you comfort during this difficult time.

~ Spigos Family

Dr. Peter Chimbos was a faculty member at Brescia University College when I first started working there. Peter was a kind, enthusiastic and engaging colleague - he helped me to "settle in" at the college and in the time that our careers overlapped we had interesting conversations about Sociological and Psychological topics. I will always remember Peter's cheerful face and positive attitude. I pray that Peter will rest in peace, and that his family here can take comfort in knowing that Peter is in heaven now with his other family members who have gone before.

~ Anne Barnfield (Brescia Univeristy College, Psychology)

Dear Mrs. Chimbos, Tina and Demetri, my condolences to you on your loss. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Chimbos as a professor while at Brescia. I enjoyed seeing him in the Greek community and even had the pleasure of seeing him in Greece one year. He always had a smile and a kind demeanour. May your family be comforted by the memories you’ve shared. May his memory be eternal.
