Peter ‘Pepper’ Clifford Arthur Reed

November 28, 2017

Peter “Pepper” Clifford Arthur Reed

January 20, 1942 – November 28, 2017

We are saddened to say that Pepper passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017, at the age of 75, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous fight against cancer. On January 14, 1961, Marlene Ann (née King) married the love of her life, her Soldier Boy and her best friend, Pepper. During their 57 years of marriage they welcomed their children: Peter (Nancy), Anita and Robin (deceased 1965); their grandchildren: Heather (Curtis), Sarah (Jordan), Reed and Leila, and their great-granddaughter, Montgomery. Pepper’s love for family and friends helped fulfill an active and happy life. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always having enough love and energy to spread around. Pepper had an amazing sense of humour and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed coaching minor hockey and lacrosse, as well as other athletics. He had many fond memories camping, hiking and travelling with his family and friends. Pepper is predeceased by his father, Arthur Reed; mother, Marie Jeanne de la Chapelle; step-mother, Anita Reed; and half-sister Doralee Poirier. He joined the London Fire Department in 1968 and finished his career as the Chief Fire Prevention Officer, when he retired in 1999, after 31 years of service. Pepper was truly blessed to have been able to spend 14 beautiful years of retirement with his wife, American and Canadian friends, and family in Panama City Beach, Florida. He will be truly missed by his lifelong friends Jim and Carole Rae, fire-fighting and army brothers and sisters, as well as many other friends and acquaintances of 75 years of life. The family is eternally grateful to all the doctors and angel nurses at the London Regional Cancer Clinic, London Health Sciences Centre and the Palliative Care Unit. The family would also like to thank the London Professional Fire Fighters Association.  Their kindness, professionalism and compassion helped to lessen the burden of suffering. Pepper will continue to live in the hearts and memories of his family and friends. Our family will receive visitors on Saturday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where the funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Pepper are asked to consider the London Regional Cancer Program.
