Phyllis Margaret Hayman
May 15, 2026
Passed away peacefully on May 15th 2026, in her 100th year. Beloved wife of John for 66 years. Loving mother of John Hayman (Jo-Ann), Gayle Detenbeck (late Barry), Marilyn Geen (Douglas), Barbara Dietrich (Ben), and Paul Hayman (Nicole). Proud grandmother of thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and loving step-grandmother. Daughter of Gladys and Morley Ward. Predeceased by dear siblings George (Marj), Gary and Wilma.
Phyllis was born and raised in the Picton-Belleville area. Upon retirement, she and John loved their time in Bayfield, Florida and travelling. She enjoyed the beach, gardening, golfing, painting and playing bridge and games with her family and friends. Her unconditional love and zest for life remain a living legacy to all who knew her. She taught us to love hard, laugh lots, and to enjoy life to the fullest. She was a true ball of fire! She will be remembered for her thoughtful attention to the lives of her family and friends. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, valued and loved. She was loved by so many who knew her.
Phyllis devoted many hours as Executive Director of the Volunteer Bureau in Belleville. The various programs she worked with were Community Care for Seniors, Big Sisters, Meals on Wheels, and Christmas Sharing. She gave endless hours to the less fortunate, touching countless lives.
Phyllis’s greatest joy in life has been her family. It showed every day.
We are so thankful to the wonderful friends, doctors, nurses, PSW’s, and staff at Amica, who cared for her with compassion and laughter.

Dear Gayle and Family, We are sad to learn that your mother passed away before her 100th Birthday Party. Losing one’s mother is very difficult no matter how many years they graced our world. No one else believes their family to be as “perfect” as does a mother. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers as you say goodbye to your beloved matriarch. ❤️Dawn and Bob.
