Rajaladchumy Coomarasamy

December 17, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Rajaladchumy Coomarasamy shares the news of her passing on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the age of 90.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Coomarasamy Tailampallam; her mother, Sinnapillai; her father, Ponniah; and her siblings, Thuraisingam, Thambirajah, Visaladchi, Chandraleela and Sothimalar.

She leaves behind her eight children: Sooriyakumaran (Vijayamala Coomar), Thayalakumaran (Vijayadevi Velauthapillai), Parimala (Joseph Edward), Jayakumaran (Pathma Coomar), Priyatharisini, Balakumaran (Sharmain Kumar), Nirmala (Sothynathan Nagalingam), and Manjula (Dennis Evans); as well as her nine grandchildren: Meera (Robert Lanteigne) and Radha Joseph, Christina Coomar, Rhea, Emily, and Karina Kumar, Mayuri and Mithila Sothynathan, and Justin Coomar.

Rajaladchumy was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, on March 1, 1935. She trained as a primary school teacher and took great pride in her work, which allowed her to nurture young children and support her family. In 1983, she immigrated to Canada with her family. Together with her husband, she met the challenges and opportunities of raising their children in a new country, and she grew to love Canada as her home.

Above all else, Rajaladchumy was devoted to her family. She lived with quiet selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own. For her children and grandchildren, she was someone you could always turn to, knowing you could count on her unconditional love, comfort, and steady support through any hardship.

She was her family’s greatest supporter and fiercest believer, encouraging the dreams of her children and grandchildren, and standing firmly beside them as those dreams took shape. She showed her love most often through acts of care, especially through cooking for those she loved. Her love was gentle and unwavering, expressed in a soft touch, kind words, and a sweet presence that always made you feel at home. There was nothing more comforting than the familiar feeling of her hand in yours.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to be wrapped in her love.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her personal support workers, nurses, and physicians for the compassion, kindness, and dedication with which they cared for her.
