Rev. Douglas John Richards
January 22, 2019
On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, surrounded by love and family, at Victoria Hospital, Doug stepped into his eternal reward and entered into the arms of his Saviour. Although he will be greatly missed, we rejoice in knowing we will see him again. Doug was known for his quick wit, corny humour and compassionate heart. He dedicated his life to the service of God and the study of His Word. Doug’s calling as a Pastor, Chaplain and Spiritual Counsellor touched the lives of so many. He was passionate about his family, helping others and walking out God’s plan each day. He is reunited with the love of his life, Marilyn (née Edgar). Cherished father of Pastor Dan (Amy) Richards, Becky (Mike) Mathieu, Kim Richards and Tim (Tara) Richards. Adoring Grandpa to Caleb, Jonathan, Shelby and Peter. Dearly missed by his brothers, Bill (Penny) and Allan (Dianne) Richards; and his sister, Judy (Keith) Hincks. Predeceased by his parents, Allan and Jean (née Ferguson) Richards. Fondly remembered by the entire Edgar family; all his nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends and his Gateway Church family. A visitation will be held on Friday, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. A celebration of Doug’s life will be conducted at GATEWAY CHURCH, 890 Sarnia Road, London on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. Private inurnment at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Doug are asked to consider Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Doug, my friend and ministry colleague of over 41 years inspired me with his dogged determination to minister God's grace and love to people. He was faithful and that is perhaps the highest compliment one can receive. Thankful you are assured of the blessed hope of the resurrection!
Doug is my first cousin. My deepest sympathy to all his family who have lost their beloved father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his ministry to all who met Doug. Doug was always the family member with such a positive, encouraging personality. His sense of humour and many harmless pranks and jokes will be missed, I am sure. God will be with him on his next journey to join his loving wife, Marilyn.
Dear Dan, Becky, Kim & Tim. We send our love to you all, and our prayers as you remember a precious Dad, Father-in-law & Grandfather. We have so many memories of your Dad & Mom, and their lives of faithful service and commitment, their love for each other, and you all. We will remember Doug for his sharp intellect, his love of classical music., and his extensive Bible knowledge. Rest in Peace dear friend - until we meet again. Sue & John Mitchell
Doug was my first cousin and since I was quite a bit younger than my two sisters I didn't really grow up with him ,as they did but he had a presence in my life. My sister ( Deanna Sawdon nee Strowger ) spent much time together in their younger days and when my sister was dying of cancer in Ottawa, Doug spent many hours by her side . He gave so much of himself. I know he helped her grapple with her imminent death . He was such a prankster and so humorous. He lite up a room with his presence . He will be dearly missed by all. He made his mark in this world.

Dear Danny,Becky,Kim,Tim, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was such a blessing to the community of Iroquois Falls and a dear friend to our family, as was your mom. It was his corny sense of humor that helped develop a very special friendship with my husband eventually leading him to the Lord. Now they are resuming that friendship once again in the presence of our savior. Thinking of and praying for you and your families. God bless and comfort you.
