Richard Paul Winegarden
June 5, 2026
It is with great disbelief, deep sorrow, and much love that we, the family, mourn the sudden passing of Paul Winegarden of London, Ontario, on the evening of Friday, June 5, 2026, in his 85th year. Paul passed away peacefully in his home, watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
Paul will be fondly remembered by his children, David Winegarden and Sarah Kennedy, and their mother, Ann Mitchell; his grandchildren, Briana and Josiah Kennedy. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Mary Loveday (née Winegarden) and her children, Mark Loveday, Heather Bosma (Ray), and Chris Loveday, and adored by his great-nieces and nephews, Emma, Ben, Sam, Hannah, late Isabella (2023) and Straun. He will forever be cherished by his great friend and partner, John Steele, of Kansas City.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd (1999) and Vera (née Kohl – 1995) Winegarden; his in-laws, Stan and Marian Moore; and his brother-in-law, Harold Loveday (2018).
Paul will be dearly missed by numerous friends and family throughout Canada and the U.S.
Paul was a court reporter for many years of his life. He was an avid traveller and enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and the U.S.
Music brought great joy to Paul. In his younger years he sang with “The Inspired Version” and travelled abroad singing. For the past ten years, Paul was an active member and choir member of Metropolitan United Church. He loved sharing and giving as much as he could to the church, including singing in the choir, attending study groups, and helping feed the homeless. Paul also loved his sports, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Chiefs; you could probably hear him cheering from miles away.
Paul was a loving, caring soul and always ready to crack a joke. He would visit with whoever would listen to him and could put a smile on the face of anyone he met. He will truly be deeply missed by anyone who was blessed with the chance to meet him.
A short visitation and Celebration of Life will be held for Paul at Metropolitan Church, 468 Wellington Street, London on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with words of remembrance at 12:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
The family asks that donations are made to Metropolitan United Church, London or a charity of your choice.

I was so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of uncle Paul . He had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease — a rare and wonderful quality. Though our connection has changed over time, my condolences are sincere. Wishing the whole family strength and comfort in the days ahead.
We will remember many happy times we spent with Paul, family, choristers, and friends. He was always fun to be around and very caring. His smile and warmth always made others feel like true friends and extended family. We had many happy times together. We treasure those times and will always remember Paul for his love, support and happy spirit. Brian and Lynda
Paul and I had been wonderful friends since our first meeting in March of 1978 in Independence. We travelled together to Spanish, Ontario in the summer of 1979. He and Ann held me up as a surrogate member of the family 1982-3 when I lived in Toronto. We sang together. We went to concerts together. We celebrated the joys of being in the Commonwealth together! He came all the way to Australia in March of 1993 for my wedding with Debra. Indeed, he joined us for the first few days of our honeymoon! Over the last 30 years our paths have crossed numerous times in Toronto and Kansas City. I cannot believe that he is gone. I can believe, with gratitude, that he lives on in my heart.

We were lucky enough to spend time with Paul here in Kansas City. He was a wonderful man and we considered him part of our family. We will all miss him and are sending love to his family and friends. (Pic of us after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.)
We were so lucky to have you in our lives, Uncle P. Not many people are fortunate enough to get to know their great uncles, and I know how blessed I was that you were mine, and that we got to cherish so many amazing memories with you. Your bright energy and wonderful sense of humour were unmatched, and your presence in all of our lives, and at our gatherings, will be sorely missed. Although there will likely be a bit more dessert left for the rest of us… we’ll always save you a piece. ❤️

Paul so often volunteered at Metropolitan United for side door duty. He always had a smile on his face and was such a lovely man. I will miss him and London Symphonia will miss his most generous volunteering. Sincere condolences to his family. RIP, Paul.
