In Loving Memory
Rita Anne Astles, age 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Victoria Hospital in London surrounded by her loved ones. She will be lovingly remembered by her partner Ron Carruthers, daughters Brooke (Liam) and Monica Astles, siblings Mary (Raj) and Karl (Julie) Stobbe, mother Beate Stobbe and her extended family.
In her life, Rita was a passionate advocate for those who faced vulnerabilities. She never stopped teaching Monica life skills believing that her potential, and anyone’s potential, had no limits. This was also how Rita lived her own life embracing new interests wholeheartedly and always learning. She passionately loved music and learned to play piano at a grade 10 level within a very short time span.
Rita chose an alternative treatment path for her cancer that took her to Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the US and also gave her a chance to travel and explore. Throughout her journey, she remained true to her convictions and fought to the very end.
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North. She will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Rita are asked to consider L’Arche London.

Brooke and Monica, We were so sorry to hear about your Mom. Even though we hadn't been in touch for awhile, I will always remember her tenacity through some tough years. She will be missed! Hugs to both of you! Linda, Kris and family
I was saddened to hear of Rita's passing. Though we had lost touch I have many happy memories of great times during our teen years. I will always remember her with guitar in hand singing one of her original songs. We are keeping all of her family in our thoughts and prayers.
Brooke, Monica, Aubt Beate, Karl, Julie and family, Mary and Raj...so very sorry for your loss. I'll always remember Rita as a wonderful person who I looked up to as a child. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
I am so very sorry to hear of Rita's passing. I was a preschool teacher of Monica's and she came to my home for respite on weekends for several years. So many great memories. Rita was such a strong, compassionate, caring Mom to both Brooke and Monica. So sad to hear this news.
Ron, heartfelt condolences from Claire and myself, for your loss. You spoke so proudly of Rita's valiant, determined efforts and clearly, were encouraged by her staunch optimism to conquer the challenges. Please, my friend, do take comfort in knowing that you will carry Rita's heart, within your heart, forevermore. "May the Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you; and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you; and give you peace."
To the Family: May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who are "sleeping in death" God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences. Psalms 116:15. For more comfort please visit our website: jw.org and view the faith strengthening video: Is There Hope for the Dead? 🌼
