Robert ‘Bob’ William Trowbridge

September 28, 2020

After a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, Robert William Trowbridge passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Dearness Home, London. Born May 28, 1940, Bob was the only child of the late Rev. Robert King Trowbridge and the late Eleanor Oxley Trowbridge. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy (née Conquergood), and his much loved daughters of whom he was so proud, Jennifer and Elizabeth, and their spouses, Michael Kiers and Steven Mews. For Bob, family was everything and he especially loved his grandchildren Brooklyn, Harrison, Jasper, Claire, Della and Sophie. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law Lois Hall and Janet Conquergood, brother-in-law Vernon Hall, and their families. Dear friend of Doug and Karen Arnold. A graduate of both Waterloo (Hons. BA, MA) and Western (Althouse College) Universities, Bob was an educator and lover of history and politics, with a distinguished career with both the Halton County and Greater Essex County District School Boards. Outside the classroom, he served on the local and provincial Political Action Committee of the OSSTF. Bob and Nancy spent 41 wonderful years as residents of Essex County, moving to London in 2011 to be closer to family and specialized medical care. A heartfelt “thanks” goes out to the staff of the Dearness Home, particularly 5E for their care and compassion over the last years. Many thanks to Dorothy Green for being there for Bob when Nancy couldn’t be. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, his family will honour Bob with a gathering at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bob are asked to consider the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.

Dear Nancy and family, It was my pleasure to work with Bob for many years. His selfless work in the areas of political action and educational finance will always be remembered. One year, I was given a history class to teach not my area of expertise. Though I'd known Bob for many years, I got to experience his leadership skills close up and personal for the first time. I'll never forget him saying, "your a history teacher now." His calm and warm demeanour immediately put me at ease and his words instilled confidence. Thanks Bob, for all you did to help me and so many others. You will be missed. God bless you Nancy and your loved ones. Jim

Dear Nancy and Family... So sorry to read of Bob's passing in the Windsor Star. We certainly had some interesting years at Sandwich Secondary, both inside and outside of the classroom! I don't know if you heard, but Paul Hertel passed away about a month ago. I went to his memorial service where Scott Hunt spoke on behalf of the staff and OSSTF. I hope you and your family are keeping well.... Sincerely, Richard P.S. I would love to hear from you....the funeral home should have my email address so if you want to, you could probably get it from them.
