Ross Huber Strickland

Of London, passed away peacefully at Parkwood Veterans’ Hospital on Thursday, February 13th, 2014 in his 89th year. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris (nee Bowman), of over 63 years of marriage. He will be missed by his children Paul (Janice), Martha Chouffot (Jacques), Carol Hemphill (Ron), Mark (Sascha), David (Ann) and Peter (Cathy) and his twelve grandchildren Daniel, Jordan, Pierre & Jean-Luc Chouffot, Jeff (Lila), Michael & Aileen (Blaine) Hemphill, Tessa, Ben, Sarah, Matthew and Adam. Predeceased by his parents G. Hudson & Marjorie Strickland of Windsor, brothers Robert Thornton and Barry, sister-in-law Isabel Elston and brothers-in-law Bill Elston & Mait Edgar. Brother-in-law to Mary Edgar, Jim & Shirley Bowman and Louise & Bill Marshall. He was a longtime member of First St. Andrew’s United Church, a Senator at Sunningdale Golf & Country Club, a member of the Western University Senior Alumni Club, a former member and Paul Harris Fellow of Windsor and London Rotary Clubs and current member of the London-Middlesex Kiwanis Club. While still Vice-President of Ex-Cell-O, Canada, he chaired the 1983 Greater London United Way Campaign. After his retirement in 1987, he managed the Canadian Tooling Manufacturing Association for several years, chaired the London & District Diabetes Association Campaign and worked as a volunteer with the Federal Tax Department assisting the Community Living London clients. Special thanks to all of the wonderful people on 5B South, the support staff from the Recreation, Arts, and Physiotherapy departments, various Legion branches, and all of the volunteers who cared so well for him over the past two and a half years at Parkwood. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tom Hiscock, First St. Andrew’s, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkwood Veteran’s Care Foundation, London-Middlesex Kiwanis Benevolent Endowment Fund or a charity of your choice.

To Mrs. Strickland, I am sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Strickland. I remember walking with him to the Captain's room of Sunningdale when the two of you would come for lunch and hearing stories from Mr. Strickland while we would wait for you to get there. Hi Mark: So sorry to learn that you lost your dad. I remember meeting him when we were in high school and could not get over how he sounded and talked to me like such a genious--the few times we spoke he used language in a way I had never heard. That was many, many years ago, but whenever I drive by your family's home when I leave Ted's, I remember that and also think of you and trust that you are well.
