Roy Douglas Lodge

June 17, 1938 - June 23, 2022

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather. It is with much love and sorrow, that the family of Roy Douglas Lodge is saddened to announce his passing on the 23rd day of June 2022, at the age of 84.

Roy was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Joan Lodge; his 4 children, Heather Wood, Elizabeth Playford, Paul Lodge, and Stephen Lodge; his 12 grandchildren, Jordon, Bethany, Nathan, Nicole, Natasha, Winston, Justus, Isabella, Rachel, Gabrielle, Isaac, and Abigail, and his siblings, Gerald, Betty, Marjorie and Naomi. He will be dearly missed by all his relatives and friends, whom he shared many loving memories with.

Roy was born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, on the 17th of June 1938 to a family of four siblings. Roy joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1957 and served as an Air Traffic Controller. He then had a long and prosperous career of 30+ years in insurance as a Vice President of Marketing for Mutual Life of Canada.

Roy was a devoted Christian, close to God in his faith. He worked many years in ministry and gave to his favourite charity The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, of which he was an honoured member. Through the years, Roy enjoyed travelling, cruises, playing golf, and spending time with his family.

Roy and Joan called London, Ontario, home for over 30 years. Being a loving father and grandfather was his passion. His grandchildren loved being held by him and listening to his made-up songs and poems. He always made them smile and laugh.

We celebrate our father’s passing from this life to the next. It is a joy, knowing he is with God. It is Dad’s wish for us all to have a passionate relationship with God’s son Jesus Christ. Thank you, Dad, for being an example of Christian character, faith and love. We miss you but know we will see you again in the future. A blessing and part of our great hope. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Roy are asked to consider The International Fellowship of Christian and Jews.

To my only sister Joan and her family Heather, Elizabeth, Paul and Steven we were sorry and sad to hear of Roy's passing. Over the past few days we have had a flood of memories of days gone by when we were all together having such fun camping, cooking, telling funny stories, and games we would all play. The famous Sebago Beach where we all spent so many hours just lying in the sun and swimming. Losing a husband and father is always a difficult time and we have been trying to share your grief over the last few days. Love to you all.

I want to thank you Dad... for gently nurturing me as a child, guiding my footsteps as a teenager and supporting me as I had a family of my own. You gave in abundance, without hesitation...your kindness, strength, words of encouragement & your deep love for your family! I'll miss your off the cuff silly songs & poems, special meals together , phone calls to just check up on me... Thank you for being the strong spiritual person you were... where would I be today if you & Mom didn't lead your children in the way to know Christ? How grateful I am for you Dad, thank you.

~ Elizabeth Playford

It is with sadness that we see this obituary posted today of our dear friend and neighbour from Kilworth, Roy. Roy and Joan we’re such sweet friends and it was a blessing to have great Christians living just 2 doors away. Roy and Don bonded quickly when they realized they both were born on ‘the Rock’… Newfoundland! Roy and Joan were both so sweet to our 4 kids who stood out front of their home at the school bus stop and even to our dogs who would mozie across the backyards to see them! Roy…you were a faithful servant of Jesus and I’m sure you are excited to finally be in His very presence now. Our sincere love and prayers to Joan, Heather, Elizabeth, Stephen and Paul as well as all the other family members who will miss you dearly. See you again soon, old friend. Love, Don and Sylvia Fry

Dear Joan and family. So sorry to hear of Roy’s passing. I have wonderful memories of visiting your home with Mom and Dad and later on after I married and moved to St John’s. A wonderful host and hostess you both were and made us feel so welcomed and prepared such tasty meals. Roy is now in the presence of his Lord whom he served faithfully. Sending Love and Prayers

~ Nola and Norm Perry

Both a father-in-law and a friend. A story, a joke, a song, a poem, a Bible verse or two... all where part and parcel of a visit with you. All will be missed. You gave me Heather, your family, and a large part of your life. All irreplaceable.

So very sorry to hear of Roy’s passing. I used to call him Mr Lodge, back in the days when I spent countless hours at the Lodge family home as a young girl with Libby. He was so welcoming and would always make me laugh with his quick wit and keen sense of humor. We could also count on him to encourage us in our Christian values and faith in God. Truly one of a kind. Sending love and prayers for comfort and peace to Roy’s family and loved ones. Hosea 2:18-19
