In Loving Memory of Sam Romanchik

June 10, 1999 – May 16, 2026

2 Timothy 4:7

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 

Our hearts are absolutely devastated as we share, with deep sorrow, the passing of Sam Romanchik, age 26, of London, Ontario and Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Sam is survived by his loving parents, Genady and Vera; his brothers, Eli and Manuel; his sisters, Sulamita (Tobi), Angelina, Elza (Francesco) and Jessica; his niece, Favour; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members from both the Romanchik and Vakulich families around the world.

Sam had an unforgettable presence wherever he went. Born and raised in London, Ontario, he attended Woodland Heights Public School from senior kindergarten through grade 3, before continuing at Ryerson Public School from grades 4 to 8. From an early age, he was known for his determination, athleticism, and enthusiasm. He participated in cross-country and track each year, earning numerous achievements through both his talent and perseverance. He later attended London Central Secondary School, where he became an enthusiastic team player in football, soccer, and volleyball. Sam embraced competition, not for recognition, but because he loved challenging himself to become better, and encouraging those around him to do the same.

His passion for learning and innovation, as well as his connection with his community, continued at the University of Western Ontario, where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. During this time, Sam played a pivotal role in Western Formula Racing. As Chassis Lead, he helped lead the design and manufacturing of the team’s 2021 fully composite monocoque automotive chassis. He later served as Technical Director, overseeing the technical development of an electric race car for the 2022 – 2023 season and leading more than 40 team members and 10 subsystem leads through the design and manufacturing process.

Sam was an ambitious and gifted young professional. He began his career with an internship at Honda of Canada in Alliston, Ontario. After graduating, he joined Tesla in March 2024 as a Mechanical Design Engineer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he exemplified excellence, dedication, and an unwavering work ethic. There was nothing Sam could not accomplish when he set his mind to it. Though his time with us was far too short, the passion, integrity, and determination with which he lived leave an enduring mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sam embraced life with a spirit of adventure and wonder. He loved travelling the world, exploring God’s nature, and seeking new experiences. He loved most being in the mountains and the outdoors, treasured opportunities to experience different cultures, and loved visiting relatives near and far. He snowboarded mountains with friends, tried surfing in California, rode a camel through the Moroccan desert, hiked the mountains of Albania with his brothers, explored his parents’ childhood towns and homes in Belarus, hiked the Grand Canyon, rock climbed a via ferrata in the Dolomites, and much more. These adventures became treasured memories that his family and friends will carry with them forever.

Sam also loved the simple joys of life. He enjoyed playing spike ball with family and friends, penny boarding down winding roads, mountain biking, snowboarding throughout the winter seasons, and researching mechanical designs in his spare time. He was passionate about investing and loved teaching others about Bitcoin, always eager to share what he had learned with others.

Although Sam achieved much in his 26 years, those who knew him best will remember him most for his genuine heart and character. He was a man of faith, love, humility, and genuine kindness.

Introduced to the Christian faith by his parents at a young age, Sam developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that shaped his life. He loved reading and studying the Bible and never hesitated to speak about his faith with others. He grew up attending House of Prayer and Redemption Bible Chapel in London, and after moving to Minneapolis, became part of the Golgotha Slavic Church and River Valley Church communities. Sam led by example, continually seeking to deepen his faith and inspire others to draw closer to God.

Above all else, Sam loved people deeply, reflecting the love of Christ. He was a devoted son, a loving brother, a proud uncle, and a loyal friend and co-worker. He shared a special bond with each of his six siblings and formed meaningful friendships wherever life took him. He got along with everyone and never sought conflict. He met people with compassion, kindness, and sincerity, making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Sam was the person others could depend on without hesitation. He showed up, listened, encouraged, and always lent a helping hand. He gave generously of his time, energy, and heart. He found the good in every situation and taught those around him how to live life fully, courageously, and with gratitude and positivity.

Sam was deeply loved by all who knew him, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void in our lives. He will be forever cherished and profoundly missed, and his legacy lives on in the faith he shared, the lives he touched, the love he gave so freely, and the memories we will carry forever. He holds a piece of each of our hearts that can never be replaced, and we await the day when we will be reunited with him in our heavenly home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Centre of Hope, Mission Services of London, or by extending kindness directly to those experiencing homelessness in your own community, reflecting Sam’s compassionate heart and desire to always help those in need.

A public visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Home, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Westview Funeral Home, followed by interment at Woodland Cemetery.
