Sara Blanche Hawthorne (nee Vater)
April 4, 2022
Peacefully at home, with family by her side, in London, Ontario, on Monday, April 4, 2022, at the age of 93. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bob. Cherished mother of Karen (Mike) and Diane (Rick). Proud grandmother of Jason (Claude), Matthew (Meg), Nikki (Kevin), and Emily (Ryan). Dear great-grandmother “GiGi” of Mackenzie, Jamie, Liam, Avery, Henry, and Maisie. Survived by her sister Ethelwynne (Ralph) and brother-in-law John (late Audrey). Predeceased by her loving parents Lucy and George, brothers Willie (Annie) and George (Maisie), and sister Lillian (Ernie).
Sara was born and raised in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland. At the age of 19, she moved to Montreal where she met and married Bob. Sara moved to London 35 years ago to help raise her beautiful grandchildren. More recently, she enjoyed spending time at the Kiwanis Senior’s Centre. Sara loved being at the cottage and traveling, and was able to see Canada from coast to coast. She loved a cup of tea and a good game of Crib, especially when she won. Until the very end, she was a proud Newfie.
A private family interment to take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Sara’s memory are asked to consider the Lung Association.

Dear Karen and Diane. So sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I remember all the relaxing summer days in the little cottage and how accepting and welcoming she was of the friends that came to hang out there. Those were the days my friends!
Diane and Rick, please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your mom. We remember meeting her on a cruise many years ago along with her smile, her great sense of fun and her obvious pride in her grandchildren. Keith and Pauline Payton
Karen, Diane & family.... I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up next door, your mom was like a 2nd mom... just a tad more patient. :-) I have nothing but fond memories from Valiquette as do, I am sure, my brother and sister. It has been DECADES since I have seen you all but you have never left my thoughts. As you gather to remember Mrs. Hawthorne, may your friends and family comfort you and remind you of the many fond memories you shared. You are all in my thoughts.
So sorry to hear of your Mom passing my deepest sympathy to all the Family

We are so very sorry for your loss. Grandma Sara was a beautiful woman inside and out. My first memory when I met her was that since both our names were Sara without an "H" we were bonded - and better than the rest ;) There are many memories I will hold close and I hope you are all able to do the same. We are sending our love and support to all of you at this time. xoxo
