We are saddened to share that on Sunday, January 7, 2024, Shakira Whyte unexpectedly passed away. Shakira is survived by her mother and father, Alisha and Troy, as well as brothers, Ross, Gerald, and Richard (Amber) and cousin Emillee. Also, survived by grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Greatly missed by her Homeshare Family – Alisa and Dan Roeland, sisters, Evie and Sophia, brothers Seth and Jonathan (Tess), nephew Rowan, several cousins, and best buddy Michael. Shakira touched many lives and will be deeply missed. We are grateful for the support of many: Dr. Michelle McNeill and the medical team who cared for her, the many VON nurses who helped support her, the high school staff, and the friendship of her classmates. Special thanks to Monica Betz, Homeshare Coordinator who introduced Shakira to the Roeland family and has provided ongoing support to both families.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 3:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road, North, London. Cremation to follow. To Shakira . There are not enough words to express our sadness at this time . We felt we knew you through all your pictures and love at Grandma O’Neals home . Her love was always there . Our most sincere condolences to your Mom , Dad , Sharon and your entire family . Rest in peace Sweetheart .
My sweet Shakira I loved you with all of my heart and always will. I have many precious memories and photos of the times that we did get to spend together and will cherish them forever. You were taken far too soon from us but I know you are an angel in heaven now and you will be forever missed. RIP my sweetheart.
Shakira was always so kind and sweet. The kids always loved playing with her, especially the girls. She was easy to love and a joy to have around. Even though she is in glory with the Father, the loss of a loved one is never easy. She will be missed.
Shakira was a sweet , smart girl. She took pride in her accomplishments, and enjoyed life. She loved her family, and had a beautiful smile. She will leave a big hole in all of our lives, we will miss her

Would like to say thank you to my husband( troy) Shakira s dad for staying and supporting our daughter all this time,he is a great father and husband,without him I couldn't have done this,we both will miss our little angel and will love her forever. It sucks to lose my sister without ever having a chance to be a real big brother to her, but at the same time, I feel so happy knowing that she was loved by everyone she met. I got to watch her grow up over the years and witness milestones like learning to speak, going to school, and eating solid foods. Her homeshare family gave her a beautiful life and for that, I'll always be grateful. Rest in peace, Shakira.

Shakira had a smile that could--and often did--brighten a whole building. She treated others with the type of kindness we could only hope to be shown. Please accept my sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers for the loss of such a wonderful person. Shakira will not be forgotten at SDCI.

To Shakira, Everyday, I was greeted by you with a smile that could warm a thousand hearts and a hug that brought joy in the gloomiest of days. You always had a smile on your face. I know that we were both looking forwards to our next Olympic adventure together. I hope you know that you will always be the fastest runner around in my books😉. Shakira, you impacted more people than I believe you realized. You brought happiness and comfort to everyone around you, and your absence will be a hole that can’t be filled. You were so beautifully and wonderfully made and I feel honoured to say that I got to know you. I will greatly miss my daily hugs, your encouraging words, and your extraordinarily warm heart. Shakira will be missed by many. I will treasure memories from the time I supported Shakira and her peers in her classroom at SDCI. I will always think of Shakira as an inspiration... ❤
