Sharon Mary (née DeBaene) Mytka

January 6, 2026

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our cherished Sharon, peacefully with family by her side, on January 6, 2026. Beloved wife of Walter of 54 years, loving mother of Jenny (Mike), Julie (Avery), Kathy (Adam), and Evelyn (Tom), adored grandmother of Gavin, Duncan, Benjamin, and Cedric, treasured sister of Elaine (Dic), and sister-in-law of Irene (George).

Sharon achieved her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Windsor, and dedicated her life to health care in the hopes of alleviating the stresses and strains of stroke care, geriatric care, pre- and post-natal care and all things public health. She returned to earn her Masters in Education from Western University at the age of 40, while working full time with four growing children distracting her every five minutes. She used her education to further her efforts in coordinating medical professionals, programs, and patients in Ontario, improving the efficiency and experience of care for patients across the province. Sharon was a proud supporter of the arts as a patron of theatre, orchestra, and music of all kinds and instilled this passion in all four of her daughters. She supported her daughters through dance, piano, swimming, karate, guitar, orchestra vocal, cheerleading, soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and so much more. Sharon loved to travel throughout her whole adult life, bringing the family on multiple trips to Disney World, Mexico, the Caribbean, Belgium, Yukon, BC and, most recently, Newfoundland, and exposing them to all the good things the world has to offer.

Sharon’s intelligence, sense of humour, kindness and curiosity will be very missed by everyone that had the good fortune of knowing her.

We are devastated and heartbroken at Sharon’s unexpected death - for you Wally and our wonderful nieces Jenny, Julie, Kathy and Evie and their families. You have lost a loving wife and they have lost an exceptional mom who could not be more proud of her daughters. Sharon was not just our sister- in -law, she was our true and very dear friend. It is an unimaginable loss for us all. We spoke with her a few days earlier, shared some laughs and discussed their next visit out west. Little did we imagine that it would be our last conversation. We have 55 years of cherished memories of fun-filled times together and were looking forward to many more. She is deeply missed. Her spirit will always be with us. Love and hugs.

Dear Walter, Jenny, Julie, Kathy and Evelyn and families, I met Sharon through my work at the Southwestern Ontario Stroke Network where I provided communications support. I just adored her - her sense of humour, kindness, quick wit and intelligence. She guided and taught me, recognized my strengths and respected what I brought to the table. As a newer mom at the time, I learned from her and admired her approach to parenting. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I will reflect on how she impacted me as a leader, and hope that I emulate that with my own teams today. Wishing you comfort during this time of time of transition. Megan
