Syntyche Mitchell

November 17, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Syntyche Mitchell, who left us peacefully on November 17, 2025, at Meadow Park London Long Term Care.

Born on April 4, 1951, in St. John’s, Antigua, Syntyche lived a vibrant 74 years filled with laughter, creativity, and undeniable Caribbean spirit. She was an affectionate, devoted mother and grandmother whose warmth touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Syntyche had a rare gift for bringing joy into every space she entered. She loved to dance, make jokes, and tell stories that left everyone smiling. She had an effortless charm and a presence that lit up every room. Whether she was cracking a witty remark or moving to her favourite music, she brought life, colour, and laughter wherever she went.

A talented seamstress, Syntyche had hands that created beauty – stitching clothes, braiding hair, crafting décor, and pouring love into everything she made. She adored dressing up and looking pretty, never missing an opportunity to show off a stylish outfit or a bold accessory. Her elegance and flair were uniquely hers.

Her food was legendary. She made the best johnnycakes, cheesecakes, coconut tarts, and sandwiches, dishes that comforted, united, and nourished generations of family and friends. Feeding others was one of her love languages, and her kitchen was always a place of warmth, aroma, and welcome.

Syntyche was adventurous at heart. She loved to travel, explore, and enjoy spontaneous road trips – often speeding down the 401 from Toronto to Windsor with her signature mix of determination and excitement. She embraced life fully and encouraged others to do the same.

Known for her kindness toward those who had little, her unwavering love and her infectious laughter leaves behind a legacy of compassion and resilience. Her generosity of spirit and ability to make anyone feel seen and valued will be remembered forever.

Syntyche was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Cosmos Mitchell and Mildred Walwyn, and her sister, Gwyneth Granger. She is survived by her children Karen Mitchell, Elliott Mitchell, and Eric Mitchell; her grandchildren Reuel Mitchell, Chantal Welch, Lauralee Welch, and Markus Mitchell-Wallace; Julitza, EmmaLee, NaKiera, Enariyah and Emani; Savannah, Harmony and Tierin; great-grand-children Maliyah, Tayla, Amare, Trayvon and Zay; and Kingston; and her siblings Hilary Mitchell, Lynette Lake, Haniel Mitchell, Adalia Samuel, Hothan Mitchell, Alvan Mitchell, Alaric Mitchell, Judith Mitchell, and Almira Mitchell. She leaves behind a large family who will forever cherish holidays, gatherings, road trips, laughter-filled moments, and the countless ways she brightened their lives.

In her final years, Syntyche found comfort in Paint by Numbers, 3D diamond art, listening to music, and watching Seinfeld. Though her eyesight dimmed and her ability to do certain things changed, her humour, spirit, and creativity remained bright. She could make anything with her hands and occasionally created a concoction or two that kept everyone on their toes.

Her smile, her stories, her laughter, and the way she uplifted those around her will be deeply missed.

Visitation will take place at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, November 21, 2025, from  4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  followed by a service to honor Syntyche’s life at 6:00 p.m. For those unable to attend the service a livestream has been arranged.

I learned to roller skate in auntie‘s basement on plastic adjustable skates when I was 8 years old. It was wild and crazy fun and she just allowed us to be kids. And I remember the pancakes she made from scratch. So many great memories, there’s so much I can say. Rest in peace, auntie! ♥️🙏🏽
