I had Mr. Schofield for Grade 9 math at Oakridge in 1979 and also knew him and his family at Metropolitan Church. His wife Nancy played the piano for our Sunday school classes. Walker was a very kind man, a great teacher and had a wonderful sense of humour. He would sometimes join our lunchtime pick-up basketball games and demonstrate his vintage hook and set shots. My deepest condolences to all of his family.

What a wonderful human being that had such a positive influence on so many of us. I graduated Oakridge in 1973. He was the math department head and my teacher for 2-3 years. I was pretty good in math and he mentored me as I'm sure he did for many others. After university, I became a qualified actuary. Until Walker told me about what an actuary was, I had no idea. We also had many laughs together. He had a great sense of humour. I always appreciated that he tolerated my smart-ass tendencies. My thoughts are with the family.

~ Paul Boundy

Mr. Schofield was my favourite high school teacher. He was gifted at teaching and was such kind and thoughtful person. In addition to learning math from Mr. Schofield I also had the opportunity to be mentored by him in running the box office for one of the Oakridge musicals (West Side Story). He had an important positive impact on me and so many other students. My condolences to his family for your loss. Best wishes, Beth Potter.

Tom and family, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father.

Mr. Schofield was one of my math teachers at Oakridge in the early 1980s. He was a true gentleman. I'll never forget on opening night of Wonderful Town in 1982, he was out in the lobby making sure all of us cast members made the correct entries on cue from the back of the orchestra seating area as we were required to do on a few occasions. I was waiting for my cue, and he strolled up to me with a big grin and said in a hushed tone, "Stephen, this is so much fun, isn't it?" He made an effort to get to know all of his students and most assuredly had the respect of them. Anyone of my classmates at Oakridge, when alerted to his passing, will have fondest memories of Mr. Schofield, someone who demonstrated day-in and day-out, he cared about us and our progress as young people.
