William ‘Bill’ Krohn

It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my darling husband, William “Bill” Krohn, at home on Monday, February 1^st, 2016, in his 95^th year. He has entered Valhalla’s Great Room of Heroes and joins his fellow comrades-in-arms, who lost their lives during WWII in Russia, in 1942. He leaves behind his heartbroken wife, Michelle, and his loving children, Brian Krohn (Mere Jane), of Glenwood, Iowa; Yvonne “Bebe” Rakowicz (John), of St. Thomas, Ontario; Silvia Scheibli (Roy), of Arizona; and Angelika Krohn (Ken), of Plymouth, Minnesota. Also grieving are his beloved grandchildren, Jason and Karen Rakowicz, of St. Thomas; Chase Krohn, of Spokane, WA; Sierra Krohn, of Glenwood, Iowa; Desire Lisac (William), of San Jose, California; Danielle Petrovic (Ogi), of San Jose, California; Lena Capasso (Carmine), of Branford, Connecticut; and Nicole Weleczki (Wes), of Edina, Minnesota; as well as nine great-grandchildren. Also missed by his family in Tennessee: nephew Gerd Krohn (Jill), and their children and grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by the only living relative in Germany, his cousin, Peter Meyerhold (Gaby). Predeceased by his parents, August (1961) and Auguste Krohn (1953); brother, Gerd O. Krohn (2005) and his wife Ilse Krohn (2008). Bill was born in Hamburg, Germany on May 24, 1921. He was a star athlete who achieved many track and field championships in his teens, and was selected to the Bundesliga, HSV Hamburg in 1939. Bill was severely wounded in Russia during WWII, which ended his soccer career in 1942. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 where he met his sweetheart, Michelle, in Montreal. After they were married, they first settled in Ajax, Ontario, and later in London, Ontario, where they raised their family. They were together for 58 loving years. Bill loved sports and was active with the London Little League (Oakridge Oaks) in the ‘70s; helping as their amateur medic and time keeper. He was so proud of his son, Brian, transforming from a Little Leaguer to being recruited by the Clemson Tigers football team. He was the most wonderful husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be remembered for his lovely sense of humor and the abundance of love he gave to his adoring family. The family wish to convey a thousand thanks to the wonderful homecare teams of St. Elizabeth, CCAC, ParaMed and VON. Special thanks to Charles Hill PSW, who took such good care of Bill over many months. We are very grateful for the exceptional care of Carrie, the visiting home nurse from ParaMed, as well as Ann Marie, and the numerous PSWs who came to the house. Thank you so much Sheena Jacob, our wonderful Nurse Practitioner, for the outstanding and diligent support to Bill and his family. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, February 5^th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. His final farewell takes place at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 1139 Riverside Drive, London, on Saturday, February 6^th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill may be made to Dr. Hassan Razvi’s Urology Research Department, c/o St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation.
